About Us
Mama Africa’s Marketplace was birthed by Ifarinu Egunrinde, a Black woman from the westside of Chicago.
She was inspired by the rich history of the marketplace in Africa and found herself enamored by the vibrancy of the land. The deeply spiritual roots of the set up and the communal atmosphere of the space sparked something in her. Egunrinde saw a place to share, showcase, trade your gifts and talents. One where you can be filled and fed spiritually while also supporting yourself and your family financially. “The marketplace is the heartbeat of the people.” She says. Ifarinu first found a love for African culture after traveling there herself. After purchasing and returning home with various African handmade goods, she was shocked to find that what she bought wasn’t actually made in Africa. After a once over of her home, she realized that nothing of hers was an authentic African product. On her journey to change that, Mama Africa’s Marketplace was brought into the world!
Mama Africa’s includes both in-person and online experience. We have distribution sites across Africa. Notably in Lagos, Osun State, and our headquarters is located in Chicago,IL. At our in-person location on the south side, you will find the storefront/marketplace and the community center/temple. We also have a social media presence as well as an online e-commerce store. People can shop authentic African and Black American crafted goods both online and in store! We are your one stop shop for culture, healing, and community.

Testimonials
Mama Africa’s Marketplace is located in the heart of the South Shore neighborhood at 2100 E 71st St. This store has some incredible things involving Yoruba spirituality and the African culture.
I was able to find some amazing self care products and picked-up tons of knowledge on how to properly use them. The African Shea Butter and Black Soap are a must have. Both are 100% natural and does wonders for the skin!!
Mama Africa’s Marketplace has African clothing for men, women, and children. They also have handmade African jewelry, herbal teas, sages, self care oils, healing candles, burning oils, incenses, handmade African sculptures, and they also offer a weekly meditation class!!
I will definitely be a regular customer and can not wait to return. Thank you for the amazing customer service Mama Africa’s Marketplace! I had an awesome experience!!
Love this store! I attended an event here a few weeks ago and the owner was so warm and welcoming! I love the selection of items here and how reasonable the prices are. I love my necklace of Africa and my beautiful mirror that makes me feel like a Queen. I look forward to my future shopping trips and other wellness events here! 🙏🏾🙂✨️
I want this shop to succeed beyond their wildest dreams. When wearing their clothes I was getting so many compliments & people asking "Where'd you get that?" I started carrying around Mama Africa postcards to more easily let them know where the shop was. One time I was coming out of the shop, and a guy stopped his car & asked if he could take my photo (I, of course, handed him a postcard). And best of all, these shop-owners really care about their community, & try to keep their merch affordable.
